YAOUNDE, Cameroon, Jan. 25 (UPI) — At least 25 people died after a suicide bomb attack on Monday in Cameroon’s northern town of Bodo.
Two of the bombings took place at a local market. Another is reported to have taken place at the entrance of Bodo, a town located near Cameroon’s border with Nigeria.
“We were in the market around [10 a.m.] when we heard a blast. The second one went off not more than two minutes after and we took to our heels,” a witness told BBC News. “There is a vigilante roadblock just outside town where another bomb went off and killed six people.”
Boko Haram is suspected of carrying out the attack but has so far not taken responsibility.
Boko Haram was designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the U.S. State Department in 2013. The militant Islamic group seeks to establish an Islamic state in Nigeria and has targeted civilians.
