Twenty-five workers were trapped Friday morning in China when the shaft of a gypsum mine collapsed.

BAOTAI , China, Dec. 25 (UPI) — Twenty-five people were trapped underground Friday after the collapse of a shaft in a gypsum mine in Shangdong province, China.

Four people were rescued, the locations of six have been confirmed and 19 were missing, a spokesman for the county government said.

The incident occurred Friday morning in a mine owned by the Yurong trade company in Baotai Township of Pingyi County, in the eastern China province.

The county spokesman added the collapse may have been provoked by a collapse in a neighboring gypsum mine.
