Arkansas National Guard Soldier Dies During Training

FORT SMITH , Ark., June 15 (UPI) — An Arkansas National Guard soldier died while training at the Fort Chaffee, Ark., Joint Maneuver Training Center near Fort Smith, officials said.

Spec. Sylvester Cline, 33, of Pine Bluff died Tuesday night in a Fort Smith hospital. A statement from the Arkansas National Guard said Cline did not die of a weapons or vehicle accident, but otherwise did not specify the cause of death. An investigation is underway.

Cline was assigned to Company A of the Arkansas Army National Guard’s 39th Brigade Support Battalion, 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, John Lynch, public affairs director for the state’s National Guard, said.

The combat team is participating in annual training exercises at Fort Chaffee; more than 1,300 National Guardsmen have arrived since June 4, the statement said.
