LAREDO, Texas, May 14 (UPI) — Eight people were killed Saturday and another 44 injured when a charter bus rolled over near Laredo, Texas, officials said.
The Laredo Morning Times first reported the incident on Saturday. It was not immediately clear how many people were on the bus, which was operated by OGA Charters.
The bus had left San Juan, Texas, in the Rio Grande valley and was headed to a casino in Eagle Pass, Texas. The bus was traveling northbound on Highway 83 outside Laredo around 12:30 p.m. local time when it left the roadway and rolled over.
CNN reports seven of the victims died on the scene and another died at a hospital. The bus driver was believed to be among the injured.
Investigators said they did not know immediately what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
Webb County Volunteer Fire Department Chief Ricardo Rangel told the NBC affiliate in Dallas that the bus was the only vehicle involved in the crash.
