HEMPSTEAD, N.Y., Sept. 30 (UPI) — The Commission of Presidential Debates released a one-line statement Friday, saying Donald Trump was correct that his microphone was malfunctioning inside the debate hall during Monday’s event.
“Regarding the first debate, there were issues regarding Donald Trump’s audio that affected the sound level in the debate hall,” the commission said.
The group did not say how the malfunction happened or why. Only Friday, four days after the debate, did they publicly admit the problem.
In the morning-after spin, Trump said part of the problem he had during the debate was that his microphone kept “going on and off” inside the debate hall. He questioned whether the problem was intentional.
The audio problem did not affect the audio feed on the television and Internet broadcast, which was seen by more than 84 million people.
Clinton, who according to flash polls was widely viewed as the winner of the debate, lampooned Trump’s complaint, saying: “Anybody who is complaining about the microphone is not having a good night.”
