Sept. 29 (UPI) — Whole Foods announced Thursday that hackers were able to gain access to credit cards used at certain locations of the grocery retailer recently purchased by Amazon.
The company said payment information at certain venues, including taprooms and full table-service restaurants inside some of its stores, was accessed.
“These venues use a different point of sale system than the company’s primary store checkout systems, and payment cards used at the primary store checkout systems were not affected,” a news release from Whole Foods said.
The company said it contacted law enforcement, launched an internal investigation and sought help from a cybersecurity forensics firm.
“While most Whole Foods Market stores do not have these taprooms and restaurants, Whole Foods Market encourages its customers to closely monitor their payment card statements and report any unauthorized charges to the issuing bank,” the statement said.
The company said Amazon.com systems were not impacted by the hacking.
