June 4 (UPI) — Israel launched air raids over Palestinian positions in the Gaza strip early Sunday morning, the Israeli Defense Force said.
Israel’s Iron Dome anti-missile system intercepted three rockets that crossed the border from Gaza before the Israeli Air Force retaliated by targeting 15 positions held by Palestinian group Hamas, Haaretz reported.
“This was an additional IDF strike carried out last night targeting terror sites belonging to the Hamas terror organization,” the IDF said. “This strike was conducted in response to the projectiles which were fired from the Gaza Strip into Israel last night, in addition to the acts of terror approved and led by the Hamas terror organization throughout the weekend.”
The Israeli Air Force targeted areas including a rocket and weapon manufacturing and storage facility in central Gaza; and near Khan Yunis, an urban warfare training facility near Shujaiyya; and infrastructure belonging to the naval forces of Hamas in the northern Gaza Strip, the IDF said.
Sunday’s attacks came after thousands of Palestinians mourned the death of 21-year-old medic Razan al-Najjar, who witnesses say was shot by Israeli soldiers near the border fence Friday.
Hamas said it reached a ceasefire with Israel on Wednesday in the wake of one of the most violent days in Gaza in years.
