LOUISVILLE, Ky., Nov. 6 (UPI) — A United States appeals court again denied Kentucky County clerk Kim Davis’ request to delay issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
The Sixth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals denied her latest request Thursday.
Davis stopped issuing all marriage licenses in June, after the U.S. Supreme Courtlegalized same-sex marriages. Four couples, two gay and two straight, sued her. U.S. District Court Judge David Bunning initially ordered her to issue the licenses, then coming back a second time to clarify his order to issue the licenses to everyone, not just the original four couples who filed suit.
Davis’ attorneys argue Bunning’s order should only apply to the original four couples, who received the licenses while Davis spent five days in jail for defying the court’s orders. Attorneys also asked the court to reverse the ruling that sent her to jail.
