Dec. 3 (UPI) — With the help of some diligent Internet sleuths, the New York Police Department on Sunday said it found a couple who accidentally dropped an engagement ring down a grate mid-proposal.

The department posted surveillance videos and photos of the couple Saturday showing a man start to propose, then scramble on the ground after he dropped the engagement ring.

“WANTED for dropping his fiancée’s ring in @TimesSquareNYC! She said Yes — but he was so excited that he dropped the ring in a grate. Our @NYPDSpecialops officers rescued it & would like to return it to the happy couple. Help us find them?” the NYPD said on Twitter.

They also posted a close-up photograph of the ring, which the department said it rescued and cleaned up for the couple.

The social media posts paid off.

“We would like to thank everyone who shared this story! The (now) happy couple is back in their home country, but thanks to your retweets they heard we were looking for them! We’re making arrangements to get them their ring back. Congratulations!” the NYPD said.
