Robert-Durst-indicted-in-Louisiana-on-gun-chargesNEW ORLEANS, April 8 (UPI) — Millionaire murder suspect Robert Durst was indicted on weapons charges Wednesday in New Orleans as he awaits extradition to Los Angeles.

An Orleans Parish grand jury returned an indictment charging Durst with being a felon in possession of a gun and possession of a gun in the presence of a controlled substance. He allegedly had a loaded .38-caliber revolver and more than 5 ounces of marijuana in his possession when he was arrested March 14.

Should he be convicted on the charges, he faces between five and 20 years in prison.

The New York City real estate heir was arrested in New Orleans and charged out of Los Angeles with murder for allegedly killing his friend, Susan Berman.

Durst, the subject of HBO documentary The Jinx and suspect in three murders, was arrested after he apparently admitted guilt in the film.

The 71-year-old has been implicated in the 1982 disappearance of his first wife, Kathleen, a case which has never been closed; in the death in 2000 in Los Angeles of Berman and the shooting and dismemberment of a neighbor in 2001.

He consented to participation in a six-part HBO documentary of his life, “The Jinx,” and in the episode broadcast Sunday could be heard muttering as he entered a bathroom, “There it is. You’re caught. What the hell do I do? Killed them all, of course.”

The indictment indefinitely puts on hold Durst’s extradition to Los Angeles.
