SYOSSET, N.Y., May 3 (UPI) — Three people were killed after a small airplane fell from the sky and onto Cold Spring Road, a thoroughfare running through a small hamlet on Long Island.
All three were killed on impact when the Beech V35B aircraft crashed onto the Syosset street. There were on-the-ground injuries.
According to the FAA, the plane was en route from from Myrtle Beach, S.C., Plainville, Conn. The plane was due in at Robertson Field by midafternoon on Tuesday, but the tragic trip was cut short at just after 2:30 p.m. EST.
The FAA said it has opened an investigation into the accident and that the National Transportation Safety Board is looking into cause of the deadly crash.
Scattered debris forced authorities to briefly close Cold Spring Road in both directions. Local school children were also ordered to stay indoors during the moments after the crash.
This is the eighth crash reported in New York this year.
