PHILIPPI, W.Va., Aug. 25 (UPI) — No injuries were reported Tuesday after a 14-year-old boy held his teacher and fellow classmates hostage at a high school in West Virginia, state police said.
The Philip Barbour High School student, whose name wasn’t released, allegedly held “numerous students” and his teacher hostage with a pistol in a second-floor classroom, West Virginia State Police said in a news release.
“After initial negotiations, the suspect agreed to release all of the hostages,” the news release said. “After further negotiations, the suspect put the gun down and surrendered to law enforcement without further incident.”
Police said they had not determined a motive, but were investigating the incident. The teenage suspect was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
“Discussions will be held with the prosecuting attorney to determine the appropriate course of action once the suspect is released from the hospital,” state police said.
