ATLANTA, March 23 (UPI) — A woman was found dead in the walk-in freezer of a popular Atlanta hotel on Tuesday after being trapped for 13 hours.
Carolyn Robinson, 61, likely became trapped inside the freezer of the Westin Peachtree Plaza, one of the city’s largest hotels, about 8 p.m. Monday, Atlanta Police Lt. Charles Hampton said.
Robinson was reported missing when she didn’t return home after her shift.
There was evidence Robinson tried to get out, but Hampton didn’t know if the mechanism to get out of the freezer was working. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating, Hampton said.
“She was a nice person. She got along with everybody. Everybody loved her,” said co-worker Cecelia Edwards.
The hotel released a statement:
“We are devastated by the tragic loss of our long-time associate and member of our Westin family. We are working closely with the authorities in their investigation, and we are providing whatever support that we can for her family.
“As this is an active police investigation, we are unable to provide further information at this time. Any inquiries should be directed to the Atlanta Police Department.”
