NORCIA, Italy, Aug. 23, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A 6.2 magnitude earthquake has shocked central Italy.
The quake hit at 3:36 a.m. Wednesday near the ancient city of Norcia, killing at least 14 and injuring dozens of others.
According to the U.S Geological Survey, the temblor’s epicenter was 4.6 miles from the surface, and was strongly felt in Rome and surrounding areas more than 100 miles away.
Residents say the tremors in Rome lasted as long as 30 seconds.
Emergency response teams are being mobilized by the Italian government.
