Leaped Over Your Birthday?

There are an estimated 187,000 people in the U.S. born on Leap Day. And for the three years in a row that their birthday doesn’t fall on, many of them have to find alternate and creative ways to celebrate their big day.

Cameron Spotten of Spanish Fork just happens to be one of those lucky Leap Year babies who knows all too well just how different celebrating his birthday can be.

“I always pick a random day of the year, like 4th of July, or Groundhog Day to celebrate my birthday.” said Spotten. “My friends and family always know that I pick a different day of year every year except when Leap Day actually arrives. That’s when we definitely go big.”

Certain problems only Leap Year babies will understand are things most of us never think of. Things like what happens when you turn 21 and you normally celebrate your birthday on Feb 28th?

Some of the other things that these famous birthday goers have to suffer are:

1. Having people respond with “that sucks” when you tell them your birthday…
2. Being asked if it’s like the movie “Leap Year”…
3. Even after explaining that it is “once every four years,” people still want to guess how old you are…
4. For some reason, people think you’re lying when you tell them you were born on leap year…
5. So you have to show them your ID…
6. During non-leap years, people always want to remind you that it’s not your real birthday…
7. So you end up with less presents…
8. Most of the milestone birthdays, like 18 and 21, don’t fall on leap years…

But when it finally IS a leap year, you feel extra special because everyone remembers to wish you a happy birthday…

While there may not be many people that share your same birthday, there are still a few famous Leap Babies who share the fun:

Ja Rule… Rapper
Mark Foster… Singer
Antonio Sabato Jr… Soap Opera Actor
Dinah Shore (1916-1994)… Actress
Tony Robbins… Actor
Dennis Farina…Actor

The reality is that those that have become used to it have learned that while they may turn another year older every year like the rest of us, they get to celebrate just a little bit differently.
