KANE COUNTY, Utah, June 3, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A 150-acre wildfire threatened structures and stopped travel on U.S. 89 in both directions Monday afternoon in Kane County, officials said.

The human-caused wildfire started about 1:30 p.m. Monday about 15 miles east of Kanab, state wildfire officials said on social media.

The wildfire also knocked out power in the area, according to the Garkane Energy Cooperative. Crews were on scene working to restore power Monday evening.

The Utah Highway Patrol temporarily stopped traffic on U.S. 89 in both directions due to fire operations, officials said.

No evacuations were ordered, though fire crews were expected to work though the night. The area is under the jurisdiction of the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
