Man, 80, dead after boat flips in Grand Canyon National Park

GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Arizona, Aug. 28, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — An 80-year-old man on a commercial river trip in the Grand Canyon died Sunday after his boat flipped, dumping him into the Colorado River.

The incident happened near Fossil Rapid (river mile 126).

“The Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a report that CPR was in progress on an 80-year-old male who had entered the river after his boat flipped at Fossil Rapids,” a National Park Service statement says.

“Despite the efforts of the group and park rangers flown in by helicopter, all resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful.”

The victim’s name has not yet been released.
