Pinocchio-1940-posterHOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA – April 8, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) Deadline.com has broken the story that “Pinocchio” will be the latest offering from Disney’s “Remake of the Week” club.

Peter Hedges, the screenwriter of such hits as “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?” “About A Boy” and “Dan in Real Life” is developing a screenplay loosely based on the original story by Carlo Collodi.

Pinocchio is one of Disney’s most acclaimed animated features.  Film critic Leonard Maltin said that “With ‘Pinocchio,’ Disney reached not only the height of his powers, but the apex of what many critics consider to be the realm of the animated cartoon.”

Steven Spielberg paid tribute to “Pinocchio” in his films “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” and “AI: Artificial Intelligence.”
