Settlement Reached In Susan Powell Estate Dispute

SALT LAKE CITY, March 27 (Gephardt Daily) – The legal battle between the families of Josh Powell and Susan Cox Powell has finally reached what is being called “a tentative agreement.”

Terms of the settlement were not disclosed, but according to FOX 13, an attorney for Susan’s parents, Chuck and Judy Cox, did confirm some details, including that chuck Cox, Susan’s father, will remain in control of her estate, and will make any determination of when to ask a court to declare Susan legally dead, not the family of Josh Powell.

Gephardt Daily spoke with Joshua Lee, the Powell family attorney.

“I think that everybody is glad that the issue is resolved and that they can move on,” Lee said.

Lee declined to comment when asked if he felt the settlement was satisfactory.

Susan Cox Powell was last seen alive on December 6, 2009. On December 14, 2009, her husband Josh Powell was named a person of interest in the investigation, but he was never charged. On February 5, 2012, Josh Powell killed himself and the couple’s two young sons, Charles Joshua Powell, and Braden Timothy Powell, in a murder suicide after custody of the boys had been awarded to Susan Cox Powell’s parents. On May 21, 2013, West Valley City police closed their active investigation into Susan Powell’s disappearance.
