SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Nov. 2, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — The Utah Highway Patrol has released the name of a man who died when his semi-truck rolled on Interstate 80, then caught fire.
The driver who died was Jason Panter, 50, from Taylorsville.
The incident happened on eastbound I-80 near mile marker 102. According to UHP Lt. Cameron Roden, the eastbound semi lost control while approaching a curve, struck a highway barrier, then overturned.
“The truck was hauling double-trailers loaded with sand and caught fire after the crash. The driver is deceased. No other vehicles were involved in the incident,” Roden said on the day of the incident.
The road was closed to traffic for multiple hours during the initial investigation and cleanup.
