Update: Police identify hiker who fell 500 feet to his death in Bell Canyon

SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah, June 17, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — The 39-year-old hiker who died Saturday after falling 500 feet from Bighorn Peak has been identified as Zachary Zimmerman, of Lehi.

The Unified Police Department has reported on Twitter that Zimmerman’s body has been recovered.

The call came in at approximately 9:20 a.m. Saturday. Crews from the Unified Police Department and Sandy rushed to the scene in an attempt to locate Zimmerman.

The crew of a Life Flight helicopter spotted the body at about 10:30 a.m., according to Unified Police Department Sgt. Brian Lohrke.

A tweet from the UPD on Saturday afternoon revealed Zimmerman had been trail running with a friend when he slipped and fell to his death.
