Sept. 12 (UPI) — James Woods says Amber Tamblyn’s story about his alleged attempted pick-up is “a lie.”
The 70-year-old actor denied he tried to take Tamblyn and her friend to Las Vegas when the pair were 16 years old after the actress, now 34, claimed as much on Twitter.
Tamblyn told the story Monday after Woods clashed with Armie Hammer over the actor’s movie Call Me By Your Name. The film follows the relationship between Hammer’s 24-year-old character and his on-screen 17-year-old boyfriend (Timothée Chalamet).
Woods criticized the movie in a tweet Sunday, writing, “As they quietly chip away the last barriers of decency. #NAMBLA.” Tamblyn jumped in after Hammer responded to Woods with, “Didn’t you date a 19 year old when you were 60…….?”
“James Woods tried to pick me and my friend up at a restaurant once. He wanted to take us to Vegas. ‘I’m 16’ I said. ‘Even better’ he said,” the actress wrote.

Tamblyn’s tweet sent social media into a frenzy, with one person questioningWoods, “What makes a 24yo/17yo gay relationship inherently indecent but skeevy old guys trying to pick up a pair of 16 year old girls is okay?”

Woods followed up Monday night by saying he doesn’t “pay any attention really” to criticism online and praising Hammer as an actor. Woods has starred in such films as Salvador and Videodrome, while Tamblyn is known for The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movies.
