RIVERDALE, Utah, June 3, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Police have identified a man found dead in a shallow creek Thursday morning behind a Ogden shopping area.

The deceased man was identified as Tino Velasquez, 56, who resides in the Ogden area, according to a news release from Riverdale Police Department.

Police said Velasquez was found in the creek behind the Staples located at 4043 Riverdale Road at approximately 7:30 a.m.

Officers say they are uncertain how the man got there or a cause of death, although a heavily intoxicated man was seen in the area late Tuesday night.

According to police, the body was found by an R.C. Willey worker in Burch Creek, a tributary of the Weber River.

The news release said Riverdale Detectives responded to the scene to investigate the incident, and Riverdale Fire Department’s Swift Water Rescue Team responded to assist in recovering the body.

The news release said: “There were no apparent injuries that would have caused the death.  Nothing at the scene was located that would suggest foul play.”

An autopsy is being performed to determine the cause of death.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
