CEDAR CITY, Utah, Sept. 19, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A Cedar City man has been booked on DUI charges after officials say he struck another vehicle — carrying a family of six —  and caused both vehicles to roll.

Utah Highway Patrol officials say that at about 5:30 p.m. Monday, Mark Lucien Johnson was driving west on Cross Hollow Road at about 2000 West when he crossed the center line and struck an eastbound vehicle carrying two adults and their four children, who are ages 5 through 14.

The impacted caused both vehicles to flip, Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Adam Gibbs told Gephardt Daily. Johnson’s station wagon landed on its roof, and the family’s car, a four-door sedan, turned flipped and landed back on its wheels.

Several in the family suffered minor injuries, Gibbs said. The worst hurt was the mother, who had several lacerations.

Officers took Johnson, 31, to Cedar City Hospital for a medical check, then booked him into the Iron County Jail on charges of:

  • Driving while under the influence
  • Driving with an expired registration
  • Driving without insurance
  • Making an unsafe lane change
