KANAB, Utah, Feb. 5, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Shawna Cox, one of the 16 protesters indicted for conspiracy in the takeover of the Malheur Wildlife Refuge outside of Burns, Oregon, is being allowed to attend the funeral of Robert “LaVoy” Finicum.

A U.S. district court judge in Oregon had denied her earlier request.

Finicum, 54, was killed Jan. 26 during a traffic stop conducted by the FBI and the Oregon State Police outside the refuge.

Cox was riding in the back seat of Finicum’s truck during the confrontation, and has claimed the Arizona rancher’s hands were raised when he was shot and killed.

The FBI maintains Finicum was reaching for a loaded pistol when he was shot, and that the shooting was justified.

Cox was released from an Oregon detention center Jan. 29. She is being forced to wear an ankle monitoring bracelet while attending the funeral services, scheduled for Friday in Kanab, Utah. A gag order was issued as terms of her release, preventing her from speaking to the media.

Gephardt Daily has a crew in Kanab and will have more on the story throughout the day Friday.
