WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, June 9, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A Salt Lake man who police say fatally shot a man on a longboard has been charged with murder.

Aaron Pierce, 24, was charged with murder, a first-degree felony, Wednesday according to court documents.

Maluolefale Toala, 30, was confronted by Pierce at about 2 p.m. May 28 near 5600 West and 3500 South.

Roxeanne Vainuku, West Valley Police public information officer, said during the argument, Pierce exited the vehicle and pointed a gun at Toala.  The argument escalated and Pierce shot Toala once in the chest.

When officers arrived at the scene they found Toala laying in the northbound travel lanes with a gunshot wound.

“Through our preliminary investigation, it appears our victim was on a longboard heading down 5600 West in the road and as he got to 3500 south he had some sort of altercation with two men in a vehicle who had stopped at a red light,” said WVC Police Lt. Dalan Taylor.

Both Pierce and the another man who was with him stayed at the scene and were there when officers arrived.
