SNOWBIRD, Utah, May 20, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Unified police have identified the skier found deceased Monday at Snowbird Ski Resort as a man who was reported missing by a relative on Sunday.

The body found is that of Charles Esposito, 60, of Layton, the department announced Monday afternoon.

At about 10:30 p.m. Sunday, a concerned relative called dispatch to report Esposito had not returned from a ski day.

Unified Police officials responded to the area, found Esposito’s car in the parking lot, and detected Esposito’s cell phone in the area of Snowbird’s Gadzoom lift.

“Despite an extensive search by Unified Police, ski patrol and the Department of Public Safety, the individual could not be located that night,” says a news release issued by the Unified Police Department. “The search was suspended until daylight for safety and visibility reasons.”

At about 8 a.m. Monday, a body was found and was confirmed to be that of Esposito.

“Mr. Esposito’s untimely death is currently under investigation,” the UPD statement says. “The Unified Police Department is awaiting a formal determination on the cause of death from the Medical examiner’s office.

“Our deepest condolences go out to Mr. Esposito’s family and friends during this difficult time. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.”
