Dec. 4 (UPI) — Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., said Sunday the Senate investigation into alleged Russia meddling in the 2016 presidential election could lead to an obstruction of justice case against President Donald Trump.

“The [Senate] Judiciary Committee has an investigation going as well and it involves obstruction of justice, and I think what we’re beginning to see is the putting together of a case of obstruction of justice,” Feinstein, the top Democrat on the panel, told Meet the Press.

She added: “I see it in the hyper-frenetic attitude of the White House, the comments every day, the continual tweets. And I see it most importantly in what happened with the firing of Director [James] Comey, and it is my belief that that is directly because he did not agree to ‘lift the cloud’ of the Russia investigation. That’s obstruction of justice.”

Feinstein referred to the FBI cases against former Trump associates, including Paul Manafort and Michael Flynn, the firing of former FBI Director James Comey and the president’s series of tweets and retweets over the weekend. Trump re-tweeted a journalist who was critical of FBI agent, Peter Strzok, who was removed from the Russia investigation after it was found he sent text messages critical of Trump and in praise of Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Strzok was the lead agent on the FBI investigation into Clinton’s use of email during her time as Secretary of State, according to The New York Times.

“Report: ‘ANTI-TRUMP FBI AGENT LED CLINTON EMAIL PROBE’ Now it all starts to make sense!” Trump tweeted.

Trump also bashed the FBI.

“After years of Comey, with the phony and dishonest Clinton investigation (and more), running the FBI, its reputation is in Tatters — worst in History! But fear not, we will bring it back to greatness,” he wrote.
