Giant swastika, part of old Nazi monument, unearthed in Germany

Nov. 22 (UPI) — A giant concrete swastika was dug up by German construction workers Tuesday — hidden beneath a sports field in Hamburg.

The swastika, believed to have once been the foundation of a Nazi-era monument, was found by excavators who were digging to make way for a new sports club.

The workers soon discovered the Nazi symbol — measuring 13 feet by 13 feet — that was buried a foot beneath the Hein-Kling sports field.

Officials believe the Nazi monument that had been located there was destroyed decades ago.

Hamburg officials ordered the heavy concrete symbol removed and broken up by jackhammers to transport.
