Murder Suspect Possibly Armed After Feeing Broward County Courthouse

Murder suspect Dayonte Resiles, 21, escaped the Broward Courthouse this morning. At the time of the escape, the suspect was wearing a white T-Shirt & black shorts. If you see him, do not hesitate - call 911.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., July 16 (UPI) — Police in South Florida believe an escaped murder suspect may now be armed with a gun after fleeing a court house on Friday morning.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office released video of 21-year-old Dayonte Resiles as he escaped from Broward County Courthouse and continued their search for him on Saturday. Investigators said he may now be armed with a gun.

“Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies are continuing to search for escaped inmate Dayonte Resiles,” they said in a statement, according to the Miami Herald. “Detectives have received information that he is armed. If you see him or know where he is immediately call 911.”

Police did not say how Resiles may have acquired a weapon or if he was assisted in some way.

Resiles freed himself from his shackles while waiting in the jury box on Friday and escaped as the court determined whether prosecutors will attempt to seek the death penalty at his trial.

During his escape he reportedly forced his way out of the courthouse, pushing a pregnant woman in the process.

“We believe he defeated the perimeter before we got into place. He escaped through the north end of the courthouse,” Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said.

The escape prompted a lockdown of the courthouse for several hours and a manhunt, which persisted through Saturday.

Resiles accused in the death of Jill Halliburton Su in her Davie home in 2014 and was seen exiting the courthouse in a white t-shirt and black shorts.
