Feb. 7 (UPI) — A U.S. Border Patrol agent killed last November died from blunt injuries to the head, an autopsy report said.
Rogelio Martinez died while patrolling in the Big Bend Sector of the border in Texas. The agent and his partner were responding to activity near a freeway in the Van Horn Station area when they were attacked. Martinez’s partner, Stephen Garland, survived.
The manner of Martinez’s death is still “undetermined.”
Garland has said he has no memory of how they were assaulted.
Martinez’s fiancée, Angie Ochoa, said she believes the autopsy report is cover-up.
“I’ve been holding myself, but I’m going to say it, I don’t feel like they’ve been investigating the other agent the way they’ve been investigating me,” Ochoa told KTSM-TV.
The autopsy report also found traces of the sedative Butalbital in his blood, a commonly prescribed drug for pain and headaches.
“When the FBI questioned me about it, I made it very clear to them that Roger would not even take Ibuprofen or Aspirin. You couldn’t make him take anything,” Ochoa said.
Ochoa said the FBI is focusing on the medication in Martinez’s body instead of finding the person who killed him.
“I just feel like the FBI isn’t doing what they’re supposed to be doing,” she said, adding that she believes the FBI is investigating the wrong person.
A $70,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the attacker or attackers.
