ORLANDO, Fla., Aug. 12 (UPI) — A Southwest plane that was due for maintenance skid off a runway late Tuesday night as it taxied into a maintenance hangar.

At about 10:24 p.m., the Boeing 737 was taxing along the runway as it moved to a maintenance area when a problem with the nose landing gear appeared to have allowed it to skid past the runway and into a grassy area at Orlando International Airport (OIA).

No formal statement as to what exactly caused the skid has been released.

No passengers were on board, and two mechanics who were helping with the move were not injured. One of the airport’s runways remains closed as workers attempt to get the plane to move, but airport traffic operations remain undisturbed.
