UPDATE: Gephardt Daily spoke with South Jordan Battalion Chief, Reed Thompson, and he stated, “The investigation team is still working on the cause for the boom that the family heard.”
He said that they believe the source of the blast was possibly from a window being open, but there is still an investigation going on.
SOUTH JORDAN, UTAH, March 17, 2015 – Gephardt Daily – There was a close call in South Jordan Tuesday night where fire heavily damaged a two-story home at 4149 West Berridale Circle.
According to South Jordan Battalion Chief, Reed Thompson, the fire was first reported around 7:30 p.m. When firefighters arrived a short time later they found the home engulfed in flames.
Thompson said a homeowner and two children were inside when the fire broke out. They told firefighters they heard a loud boom before realizing flames had broken out on the second floor.
The homeowner tried to use a fire extinguisher to douse the flames before he and the children were forced to flee.
All three escaped without injury.
Investigators say the fire appears to have started in the rear of the home, although they’ve yet to determine a cause.
Estimated damage is in the $50,000 to $60,000 range.
