LOS ANGELES, March 21 (UPI) — Netflix’s prison-themed series Orange is the New Black will be eligible to compete in the drama categories at the Emmy Awards this year.

The critical darling has previously been nominated for prizes in the comedy races.

Variety said the Television Academy of Arts and Sciences denied the streaming service’s petition to have its hourlong program considered for nomination in this year’s comedy categories, along with approved, genre-straddling shows like Glee, Shameless and Jane the Virgin.

No reason for the decision was reported.
