SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – April 2, 2015 – (Gephardt Daily) – Governor Gary Herbert and President Barack Obama spent some quality time together Thursday night in the back of the president’s limo.

The executive ride sharing came at the invitation of the president after he was greeted by Herbert and Senator Orrin Hatch upon his arrival Thursday night at Hill Air Force Base.

After the greeting, President Obama asked Herbert to ride in his motorcade to downtown Salt Lake City to discuss issues important to Utah.

In a statement released late Thursday night Governor Herbert thanked Mr. Obama for taking the time to discuss the issues:

“It is an honor to welcome the President of the United States to Utah, particularly at Hill Air Force Base,” said Gov. Herbert. “I appreciate the president’s invitation to ride in the motorcade with him to his hotel, which allowed us time to discuss a number of important issues. We discussed Utah’s Public Lands Initiative, our efforts to craft an alternative to Medicaid expansion and the importance of Payments in Lieu of Taxes, which many of our rural counties depend on to provide important services.

“We also talked about a proposal to reform the Elementary and Secondary Education Act to give the states greater authority in education, the importance of international trade and other issues related to the National Governors Association.”

President Obama is scheduled to return to Hill Air Force Base Friday, where he’s expected to meet with base personnel before returning to Washington, D.C.
