Knife-Wielding Attacker Shot By Salt Lake Police Officer

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – June 22, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – A 29-year-old man is in serious condition after being shot by a Salt Lake City police officer Saturday night.

According to SLCPD, the officer was in the area of 210 South Rio Grande Street just before midnight when he heard a woman screaming and saw a man threatening her with a knife. They say the officer ordered the assailant to drop the knife and that instead complying he lunged at the officer and was shot.

Neither the woman or the officer were injured.

Salt Lake Police say the alleged attacker was “from the shelter area.” His identity has yet to be released.

The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave.

The Unified Police Department has been called in to handle to the investigation, in accordance with a new state law requiring outside agencies to investigate instances where police of use of force is involved.
