DETROIT, June 21 (UPI) — Semiautomatic weapons were fired at child’s birthday party in Detroit, Mich., Saturday night, killing one man and injuring nine others.

Detroit Assistant Police Chief Steve Dolunt said it was a “miracle” no child was hurt. Shots were fired at about 8:30 p.m. in Detroit’s west side near basketball courts, where a tournament was also taking place.

A 20-year-old man was killed and a 46-year-old man is in critical condition.

Two suspects reportedly opened fire at their intended target with total disregard for bystanders. There were up to 400 people at the event.

There are no leads or witnesses so far.

“There’s kids out here. I’m livid. There’s no excuse, there’s not any excuse why no one is talking,” Dolunt told WXYZ. “Man up or woman up, whatever, and tell us what’s going on.”

“I’m very disappointed with all the couple hundred people out here, no one’s seen anything,” Dolunt added.

Police initially went to the party at about 6 p.m. to ask people to disperse, as there were too many people and some cars were double parked. Party attendees cooperated with dispersal orders.
