SALT LAKE COUNTY, UTAH – September 15, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) — Salt Lake County mayor Ben McAdams has chosen his new deputy mayor and chief administrative officer.
Lori Bays’ appointment was unanimously approved today by the Salt Lake County Council; she will replace Nichole Dunn, who is moving with her family to Washington, D.C.
McAdams said Bays has served as the county’s Department of Human Services Director since the beginning of his administration in 2013. In that role, she has helped pioneer the Pay for Success high-quality preschool initiative for low-income children and has spearheaded a pilot program together with community members in Kearns to improve health and education outcomes there.
“I’m very pleased that Lori has agreed to take on this new responsibility. She has played an important role in helping ensure that Salt Lake County families live in safe, healthy communities. I expect in her new position she’ll support our team in doing even more in that regard,” said McAdams.
McAdams said Bays has 18 years of professional experience in both public and private sector organizations. Before coming to the county, she was a health and human services agency executive in San Diego County serving on the executive management team, overseeing 5,000 employees and a $2 billion budget. Bays has a BA in psychology, and a master’s in clinical psychology. She and her husband Charles have a son and a daughter.
“I am honored that Mayor McAdams has selected me to serve in this role,” said Bays. “I have devoted my career to partnering with others to build healthy communities, and I am excited to work collectively in this capacity with residents, employees and other community stakeholders of Salt Lake County to create the future we choose for ourselves and generations to come.”
Bays will begin her new job September.
