SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – September 23, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – A semi-truck full of bottled wine caught fire forcing the temporary closure of eastbound I-80 Wednesday morning.
According to Sgt. Todd Royce, Utah Highway Patrol, dispatch received a call at 9:11 a.m. of a vehicle fire on I-80 near 5600 West.
When troopers arrived, there was heavy smoke coming from the truck and within minutes the entire back end of the semi was engulfed in flames and the fire was spreading to the grass on the side of the road.
“The fire department arrived on scene and was able to extinguish the fire relatively quickly,” said Royce. “It appears that the highway has been re-opened to two lanes of travel at this time.”
The cause of the fire, and estimate of damage is unknown at this time.
