SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Dec. 22, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) — A 3-year-old girl is in serious condition after an early morning house fire in Salt Lake City.
According to Lt. Jason Asay, public information officer for the Salt Lake City Fire Department, firefighters were called at about 2:15 a.m. Tuesday to 700 E. 1109 South.
When first responders arrived, they found heavy smoke and flame coming from the house.
In the front yard, a distraught adult couple and a 6-year-old girl told firefighters there was a child still inside the residence.
Rescue teams made their way into the structure and found the girl ─ who was injured, but alive.
The child was rushed by ground ambulance to Primary Children’s Hospital where she is being treated for burns and smoke inhalation.
Firefighters also rescued a family dog found unconscious on a couch on the first floor of the home. They used a special device designed specifically for animals, and were able to revive the pet, which at one point had stopped breathing.
At least 30 firefighters responded to scene, along with Salt Lake City police.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined although investigators believe it started in a dining room.
