NEW YORK, May 9 (UPI) — The creators of Apple’s A.I. digital assistant Siri, Dag Kittlaus and Adam Cheyer, have developed a new smartphone companion named Viv.
Viv, whose name means life, was demonstrated Monday during TechCrunch’s New York Disrupt technology event, displaying its ability to answer complex questions posed by users.
“Will it be warmer than 70 degrees near the Golden Gate Bridge after 5 p.m. the day after tomorrow?,” Kittlaus asked Viv, which answered in detail.
Described on its official website as a way to “radically simplify the world by providing an intelligent interface to everything,” Viv was shown being able to go beyond Siri’s capabilities as Kittlaus ordered flowers, sent money, looked for hotel rooms and ordered an Uber ride onstage seamlessly without of the use apps.
Voice-controlled Viv was also touted as an artificial intelligence that is constantly evolving in order to better cater to users’ needs. “When it understands intent of user, it generates a program as needed,” Kittlaus said.
While no release date has been set for Viv, the creators confirmed it would be available across multiple platforms and even devices and gadgets other than smartphones.
