WASHINGTON, June 8 (UPI) — Police officers and a SWAT team were called to a Washington, D.C., neighborhood Wednesday afternoon after four people were shot not far from the U.S. Capitol, authorities said.
Officials said the shooting happened at the intersection of North Capitol Street and New York Avenue in Northeast Washington.
Officials said a bike-mounted police officer was also injured when he was hit by a vehicle at the scene.
Washington police said the gunman, who was wearing all black and a mask, has not yet been captured.
Traffic was interrupted in the area as police processed the scene and those wounded received medical treatment.
The conditions of the four victims were not immediately reported.
The scene of the shooting is about 2 miles north of the Capitol complex.
