SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah, May 26, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Search and rescue crews assisted two hikers from Bell Canyon Friday afternoon.
Battalion Chief Eric Larson, Sandy Fire Department, said crews were dispatched to two hikers in separate incidents in the area of the reservoir at approximately 2:30 p.m.
A man was hiking solo and a woman was hiking with a group, Larson said. Neither was injured, but they were not adequately prepared for the hike and became fatigued and dehydrated.
The man and the party the woman was hiking with were able to call authorities. Search and rescue crews reached the hikers in less than an hour and assisted them from the canyon.
The man was transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure.
Larson said the incidents are a good reminder to hikers to be well prepared, and make sure you have the proper footwear, plenty of water and food.
