NEOLA, Utah, Aug. 31, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Neola Elementary School was placed on lockdown briefly Thursday after a woman called dispatchers saying four men had surrounded her house and one of them had a gun.
Officers responded to the call, which came in at about 11:10 a.m., and determined the report to be false. They suspect the woman who called dispatch is suffering from some form of impairment, according to Duchesne County Sheriff’s Lt. Jeremy Curry.
Curry said it appears there never was any threat to students, faculty, or staff at Neola Elementary, which is near the caller’s house. Deputies are working now to ensure the woman receives whatever help she may need, Curry said, according to a news release.
The decision to place the school on lockdown was precautionary and was made to ensure the safety of the students, faculty and staff, Curry said.
The lockdown was lifted at 11:25 a.m., and school operations returned to normal, according to Duchesne County School District Student Services Director Scott Forsyth.
