CORINNE, Utah, Nov. 24, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A Utah duck hunter was seriously injured Friday afternoon when an “excited” hunting dog caused a shotgun to accidentally discharge.
According to Chief Deputy Dale Ward, Box Elder County Sheriff’s Department, the victim was inside a blind at the Chesapeake Duck Club around 4 p.m. along with a hunting companion and his dog.
Ward said the victim stood up to stretch, prompting the dog to run from the blind.
During the excitement a shotgun was tipped over, causing the weapon to discharge. A single round struck the victim’s left forearm, leading to “a rather substantial injury.”
The wounded man was being taken in a private vehicle to a Brigham City hospital when he and his would-be rescuers were flagged down by a Brigham City ambulance crew.
The ambulance team took the victim to Brigham City Hospital where he was stabilized. He was then taken to McKay Dee Hospital in Odgen for further treatment.
The hunter’s injury is not considered life-threatening.
