EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah, Jan. 3, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Police arrested a second man as a result of an investigation into car burglaries outside Eagle Mountain churches last month.
A probable cause statement from Utah County said Steven Laursen, 41, was arrested Wednesday and is facing charges of six counts of third-degree felony theft with a value of less than $5,000 with two prior convictions, six counts of class A misdemeanor burglary of a vehicle and five counts of class B misdemeanor criminal mischief.
The arresting officer wrote in the probable cause statement: “On Dec. 23, I responded to several vehicle burglaries in Eagle Mountain. During the course of my investigation I
found there were five vehicles at two neighboring churches that had been burglarized. All prior to the report of the vehicle burglaries at the churches, a report was taken of a Roto-Rooter truck that had been burglarized.”
The car burglaries took place outside the residence of one of the suspect’s next door neighbor and also outside two the churches near 7250 N. Porters Crossing and 7287 N. Ute Drive.
All but one of those vehicles had the passenger front window smashed and items in plain view stolen including wallets, credit cards, drivers’ licenses, cash, gift cards and a tablet.
Officials were able to retrieve video footage of the parking lot of the church at 7287 N. Ute Drive that allegedly showed two Caucasian men casing vehicles in the same parking lot as three of the burglaries. The second man to be identified was Laursen, who was subsequently arrested and booked into the Utah County Jail with his bail set at $45,100.
Officials previously said the other man was identified as Bradlee D. Kalkbrenner, 34.
Kalkbrenner was booked on the following charges related to the same vehicle burglaries, and others:
- Ten counts of acquisition/possession/transfer of a financial card, a third-degree felony
- Seven counts of theft with a value of less than $5,000 with two prior convictions, a third-degree felony
- Two counts of criminal mischief, one a third-degree felony and one a class A misdemeanor
- Seven counts of burglary of a vehicle, a class A misdemeanor
Kalkbrenner is being held in lieu of $29,920 cash-only bail. Both men have an extensive criminal history.
