MILLCREEK, Utah, Jan. 3, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Unified police are searching for a man and woman who allegedly stole a Nintendo Switch bought as a Christmas gift for a 6 year old, then returned it to a Walmart for cash.

A news release from the Unified Police Department said the suspects stole items from the trunk of a vehicle parked at 291 E. Hill Avenue (4050 South) in Millcreek during the overnight hours of Dec. 9.

“One of the items was a Nintendo Switch the victim couple had been paying for on layaway for several months for their 6 year old’s Christmas,” the news release said. “On Dec. 11 we received information the Nintendo had been returned to the Walmart in Taylorsville for cash.”

A detective assigned to the case contacted Nintendo, which provided the family with a new console.

Unified police provided several photos of the alleged suspects. The woman is shown walking into the store carrying the Nintendo, while the man is seen returning the Nintendo with the woman by his side.

The male suspect, in surveillance photos, is wearing a red baseball cap with a white logo, a gray hoodie with a blue and white Utah Jazz logo, navy shorts, black socks and white sneakers. The woman is wearing a navy sweatshirt with a white logo, a gray coat, navy leggings and gray boots. She appears to be carrying a purple bag.

Anyone who recognizes the suspects or has information on them is being asked to contact the UPD at 801-840-4000.
