SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, March 11, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — The Utah Museum of Contemporary Art Board of Trustees announced Monday that Laura Allred Hurtado has been chosen as the executive director of the museum.
Hurtado, who will begin her role as executive director on April 1, was the global acquisitions art curator for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints History Museum, and has worked on and/or curated exhibitions in New York City, San Francisco and throughout Utah, a news release from the UMOCA Board of Trustees said.
She also has published essays and two books, including “Saints at Devil’s Gate: Landscapes along the Mormon Trail.”
“For nearly 90 years, the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art has been an aesthetic force and community leader in Utah and beyond,” Hurtado was quoted in the news release. “I am honored and humbled to be a part of that longstanding legacy and to join a strong, passionate, hardworking and committed team — of trustees, staff, visitors, volunteers, and supporters.”
UMOCA board President Val Antczak noted Hurtado’s knowledge, enthusiasm, and experience, and stated in the release, “She has been an integral part of the Utah art community for years, while following the contemporary art scene across borders and cultures and will build on our long history of bringing cutting edge contemporary art exhibitions to Utah.”
