SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, March 22, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Broadway at the Eccles has announced its 2019-2020 season, which will include the touring-show versions of Disney’s “Frozen” and Tony Award-winning “Dear Evan Hansen.”
“We are delighted to announce our 2019-2020 season on the heels of a record-breaking engagement of ‘Wicked,’ which brought more than 100,000 people downtown to the Eccles Theater,” Bruce Granath, Broadway Across America vice president, said in a prepared statement.
“The extraordinary demand for touring Broadway in Utah is the reason we can announce that our 2019-2020 season will include Disney’s ‘Frozen’ and ‘Dear Evan Hansen,’ two of the most popular shows currently on Broadway, as part of an incredible 6-show season package.”
Shows immediately below are part of the six-show package offered by Broadway at the Eccles, which provided the summaries.
“Miss Saigon,” Oct. 15–20, 2019. This is the story of a young Vietnamese woman named Kim who is orphaned by war and forced to work in a bar run by a notorious character known as the Engineer. There she meets and falls in love with an American G.I. named Chris, but they are torn apart by the fall of Saigon. For three years, Kim goes on an epic journey of survival to find her way back to Chris, who has no idea he’s fathered a son.
“A Christmas Story,” Dec. 3-8, 2019. This musical chronicles young and bespectacled Ralphie Parker as he schemes his way toward the holiday gift of his dreams, an official Red Ryder® Carbine-Action 200-Shot Range Model Air Rifle (“You’ll shoot your eye out kid!”). An infamous leg lamp, outrageous pink bunny pajamas, a maniacal department store Santa, and a triple-dog-dare to lick a freezing flagpole are just a few of the distractions that stand between Ralphie and his Christmas wish.
“Fiddler on the Roof,” Jan. 20-26, 2020. You’ll be there when the sun rises on this new production, with stunning movement and dance from acclaimed Israeli choreographer Hofesh Shechter, based on the original staging by Jerome Robbins. A wonderful cast and a lavish orchestra tell this heartwarming story of fathers and daughters, husbands and wives, and the timeless traditions that define faith and family.
“Dear Evan Hansen,” March 4-14, 2020. A letter that was never meant to be seen, a lie that was never meant to be told, a life he never dreamed he could have. Evan Hansen is about to get the one thing he’s always wanted: a chance to finally fit in. “Dear Evan Hansen” is the deeply personal and profoundly contemporary musical about life and the way we live it.
“Frozen,” April 15-May 20, 2020. Frozen on Broadway features the songs you know and love from the original film plus an expanded score with a dozen new numbers. The creative team at its helm has a cumulative 16 Tonys to its credit, including the EGOT-winning composer Robert Lopez, Oscar-winning lyricist Kristen Anderson-Lopez, Oscar-winning writer Jennifer Lee and Tony Award®-winning director Michael Grandage.
“Anastasia,” June 9-14, 2020. This show transports us from the twilight of the Russian Empire to the euphoria of Paris in the 1920s, as a brave young woman sets out to discover the mystery of her past. Pursued by a ruthless Soviet officer determined to silence her, Anya enlists the aid of a dashing conman and a lovable ex-aristocrat.
Below is an add-on performance, not included in the six-show package.
“The Illusionists,” Feb. 14-16, 2020. This is packed with thrilling and sophisticated magic of unprecedented proportions. Features include grand illusion, levitation, mind-reading, disappearance and for the first time ever in history, a full view water torture escape.
