SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah, April 24, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) â The wife of slain South Salt Lake Officer David Romrell is inviting the community to a benefit dinner Friday.
Romrell died Nov. 24, 2018 while investigating a burglary after he was struck by the fleeing suspectsâ car. He was laid to rest Dec. 5.
His wife wrote an email to media outlets Wednesday:
“My name is Liz Romrell, wife of fallen South Salt Lake Officer, David Romrell.
“I’m reaching out to ask if you can help publicize an upcoming dinner/benefit concert in David’s honor.
“The event will take place this Friday at Pat’s BBQ, with popular local band Royal Bliss performing.
“We’re trying to raise $50,000 so my young son and I, David’s family, friends and fellow officers can attend Police Week in Washington D.C. next month. All proceeds will go toward this goal.”
The event at Pat’s BBQ, 155 W. Commonwealth Ave., South Salt Lake, will be Friday, April 26 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets are $20 or $35 for a pair, $10 for kids 10 to 16, and free for kids 9 and younger. Police Week, which begins May 6 and draws in between 25,000 to 40,000 attendees every year, includes numerous events to honor officers who have died in the line of duty.
Romrell, 31, was a former Marine who joined the South Salt Lake Police Department in January 2018. He was the first officer to die in the line of duty in the departmentâs history.
Besides wife Liz, he left behind an infant son, Jackson.
